Frequently asked questions
Everything people usually want to know before they upload a file.
Is Zip On Mars free?
Yes. There's no account, no subscription, and no hidden fee to zip or unzip files.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Open the page, add your files, and get your result — that's the whole flow.
Do you store my files?
Only temporarily. Files are processed to create your zip or extracted output, and then automatically deleted a short time later. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Is it safe to upload sensitive files?
Uploads happen over an encrypted connection, files aren't shared with third parties, and they're deleted shortly after processing. That said, for anything highly sensitive, use your own judgment about uploading to any online service.
What file types can I zip?
Any file type — documents, images, videos, code, whatever you need bundled into a single archive.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes, individual files are limited in size so the service stays fast and reliable for everyone.
Can I unzip a password-protected archive?
Not currently — encrypted .zip files aren't supported yet.
Why use this instead of my computer's built-in zip tool?
Plenty of reasons not to — your operating system's built-in tool works great too. Zip On Mars is for moments you don't want to dig for that option, you're on a device without one, or you'd rather not install anything.
